About

Volker Eschmann

Creative Director, Strategic Advisor and Programme Developer. Working independently since 1993.

Volker Eschmann

My work began on stage. In 1993 I started working independently as an actor and dancer, and over the following decades the work grew from the stage into places, festivals and communities – in Europe, India, Central America and the United States.

I helped build places that ran for many years: Ibiza Moving Arts, a house for yoga and dance, and Forgotten Land on Arambol Beach in Goa, which I directed for twelve years. Forgotten Land continues today as an international production label, and in 2024 I co-founded New Vision Festival near Leipzig.

Much of what I know about groups I learned through Contact Improvisation and Ecstatic Dance, and through my long relationship with the Senegalese griot Nago Koite, who opened the world of African dance, music and storytelling to me.

Serving a community and leading it are the same act.
